Graduation!
It’s scary. It’s exciting. It’s a time for reflection.
It’s a job well-done. It’s a time of new beginnings.
Commencement! Celebrations! It’s a great time of year!
It’s a great time of life for graduates! New experiences. New friends. Remembering. Anticipating. Decisions.
We offer a new and unique gift idea for graduates.
Learning to Fly
“Today we see a hungry hawk
prepare to leave the nest.
Eager feet now take the walk:
so begins the test.
“Excited, happy, tentative,
confident, afraid.
‘Can I fly? Can I live?’ —
emotions firm but frayed.
“Parents’ thoughts race wildly
of tiny legs and wings,
recalling moments tenderly;
but time to cut the strings.”
So begins this graduation poem. It is called “Learning to Fly” and was originally written several years ago for my nephews to celebrate their high school graduations, and to provide some words of wisdom and inspiration. It is a gift for parents to give to their graduate.
The last stanza is: “This is all we ask of you:/Be kind. Be strong. Be free./And know that we will love you/wherever you may be.” To purchase or see other options of the larger version of Learning to Fly, click the button below.
We have two graduation pieces in our gift line. There is “Learning to Fly” which comes in a “full-size” version, with 20 inch by 16 inch matting in various colors, and in a shorter version (10 inch by 8 inch size). In order to make the shorter version, we do have to edit out certain stanzas. Sorry! Otherwise the font would be so small, no one could read it. But both have room for your grad’s photo, or a family photo! A unique gift you will be proud to give, and your grad will be thrilled to receive! And, it is truly an heirloom. Above in red matte is the 10 by 8 print version. Click the link below to purchase it, or to see more choices.
The other one is called “Each Day You Write Your History,” which is intended to inspire. We think you’ll like that one too. This is printed in 10 by 8 size with room for your photo. Both poems can be etched, and the grad’s name, school and date can be inserted into the matting for a personal touch. See the Collections/Graduation Pieces for full text.
