Alzheimer’s/Dementia: A New Epidemic?
Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia are affecting more and more families all the time. Talk to anyone, and they will have a family member with it, or they will know someone with it.
It’s terrible to see the toll that this takes on an individual. It’s terrible to see the toll it takes on families. It is not reversible, though some medications can help to lessen some symptoms or complications. But it is there and it will only get worse over time.
Donate what you can. It’s an investment in yourself, and in your family, and in your world.
I wrote “That You Remember Me” several years ago for my mother-in-law. Marie was kind, thoughtful, generous and very intelligent: everything one would want in a mother and mother-in-law. The disease progressed over 10-15 years, and finally she died in March of this year at age 93. Her husband, Lou, bravely and lovingly took care of her in their own home until the end. No small task at all.
When she died, I wrote “An Angel Flew To Heaven Today” in her honor.
She is greatly missed, and it was so sad to see someone so wonderful taken by this disease.
